Chapters 9-12 Summary

Chapter 9 begins with the first resurrection of Father Captain de Soya in Pacem, home of the Vatican. He is overcome by emotion that he is told is an after-effect of resurrection. De Soya has been summoned by the Pope to meet with Cardinal Lourdusamy and Fleet Admiral William Lee Marusyn.

Cardinal Lourdusamy tells de Soya the story of the Hyperion pilgrim Brawne Lamia and the cybrid John Keats. The cybrid was killed, but his persona lived, and communicated with his unborn daughter, Aenea. De Soya receives a papal diskey giving him authority over all local Pax authorities, and told that his mission is to return Aenea to Pacem alive. His mission supersedes all other orders because the child is a danger to the church.
