Summary

In Chapter 5, Mike writes that his relationship with Ellie did not develop very quickly because they both had things they wanted to keep secret. Ellie had looked so apprehensive when she gave Mike her name that he wondered if she had given him a fake name. Ellie did not seem to want to tell him where she was staying so they agreed to walk together as far as the village.

As they were walking, Mrs. Lee stepped out from behind a tree. She was wearing a scarlet cloak. Mrs. Lee asked what they were doing there.
