Book 2, Chapter 6 Summary

Bendrix remembers how he had tried to write to Sarah after their breakup, but received no reply. Then, as his letters were sent in vain, his love turned to anger and he hoped he could hurt Sarah. However, his hatred eventually left him, only to return on the day that he saw her again.

Bendrix receives the next report from Parkis and learns that Sarah has been visiting the apartment of Richard Smythe and his sister. Hearing about this new man in her life, Bendrix asks Parkis how to meet Richard Smythe. However, Bendrix does not like any of Parkis's ideas and, instead, he comes up with a plan to use Parkis's son Lance as an excuse to enter the house.
