Book 2, Chapter 3 Summary

Parkis arrives at Bendrix's house and reports that he has been using his son and one of Sarah's maids to determine where she has been going and whether her visits are part of an affair. At first, Bendrix feels sorry for Sarah but, when he sees a picture of Henry and Sarah entering a gala together, he immediately gets jealous again and writes to Henry to set up a lunch date.

They meet at Bendrix's club, and Bendrix asks Henry if he is still worried about Sarah. When Henry says that he has thought nothing about it, Bendrix tells Henry about the report.

Hearing that Bendrix has had Sarah investigated and there is a report, Henry grows angry with Bendrix and only the appearance of the club secretary prevents them from actually getting into a fistfight. Instead, once the club secretary leaves them, Henry takes the report and throws it...
