Act 1, Scene 7 Summary

Jones stumbles into a clearing that has a rough stone altar-like structure. He senses that he has been there before and is visibly scared. He lies on the ground and moans in his fear. Then he sees the witchdoctor who begins his chanting and dancing right in front of his face. It becomes evident that the forces of evil demand a sacrifice and it is Jones who will be the victim. He must offer himself up yet he begs the Lord to help him. A crocodile emerges from the water and starts crawling toward Jones and.....
