Summary

In pages 70 - 91, Yoshiro remembers his daughter Amana and her husband's move to Okinawa. After they leave, Yoshiro is left with their son Tomo, who becomes increasingly difficult to raise, perpetually drinking and gambling, and rarely ever home. Yoshiro wonders if this proclivity for departure is genetic, as his daughter and wife have also taken off. One day Tomo comes home with a beautiful woman who shortly after gives birth to Mumei. Not long after she dies. Yoshiro remembers seeing her dead body and feeling disturbed.

Yoshiro is left with Mumei as his mother is dead and Tomo is nowhere to be found. The nurses at the hospital treat him like a fool because he knows little about infants.
