Summary

Daniel is woken up suddenly in the middle of the night by his dogs barking. Daddy receives a visitor at the door. Daniel does not recognize the visitor's voice but listens to their conversation. The visitor tells Daddy that a young boy was strangled in the woods, and that the wounds on his neck could only have been done by a very strong man. Daddy denies that he had anything to do with killing a boy in the woods, but Mr Price decides that it was Daddy who did it. The dead boy is Mr Price's son, Charlie. Daddy defends himself and says that he has no motive to do so, but the visitor thinks that Mr Price's opinion could not be dissuaded.
