Summary

In Chapter 13, Rowan feels conflicted, and one part of her wishes she had not learned the truth. Her life at Oaks was a lie, but it was less complex than the reality. A little boy says Rowan's eyes look “weird” (133) now that she has the lenses. A little girl named Rainbow says there are monsters above ground. Rowan makes up a story about monsters to fill their demands. Rowan is summoned to a meeting with the cybersurgeon, Flame. Lachlan, Ash, and Lark are there. A man named Flint introduces himself to Rowan as the leader of the Underground. Lachlan and Flint are obviously at odds about their future plans. Flame interrupts their debate, saying she has a limited amount of time to perform the surgery on Rowan. She explains to Rowan that there are risks, but that she is the most skilled cybersurgeon...
