Short Poem about Sigurd (Sigurdarkvida in skamma) Summary

The poem begins with Sigurd's visit to Giuki and the oaths sworn between Gunnar, Hogni, and Sigurd. Sigurd is given Gudrun in marriage and they all spend many happy days together until they ride to Brynhild's. Sigurd goes with them because he knows the way and would have gladly married her if his fate had been different.

Sigurd places a naked sword between himself and Brynhild. Brynhild has never known any shame and she is unaware of the injury that has been done to her by Giuki's sons. Sitting outside Brynhild states that she will have Sigurd or die; and she knows the words she has just spoken will come back to haunt her. Brynhild's anger grows until she approaches Gunnar with an evil plan to kill Sigurd. She tells her...
