Scene 1 - In soliloquy, Edmund prays for a good wind to get him quickly to France where he can join forces with the king against Edward. Mortimer arrives, having drugged his jailers and escaped. Together they depart for France.
Scene 2 - In France, Isabella complains to Prince Edward about how unhelpful her brother, the King of France, has been. Prince Edward tells her to go back to England and make Edward happy. It won't matter then how the King of France behaves. Isabella tells him he's fooling himself, and wonders aloud what will become of her, unwelcome as she is in both countries. A British Lord, Hainault, arrives to take them to his country estate. Prince Edward brags about how soon he'll be able to go.....
