Chapter 11 Summary

Reacher finds Alice's Volkswagen, and in the glove compartment are maps and a pistol. He takes it apart and notes it has been fired and cleaned regularly, and then he puts it back together again. It's been a long time since Reacher has driven, so the manual transmission feels stiff and awkward. He looks over the maps and drives to a strip of auto dealers looking for one that offers loaners. When he finds one, he drops off Alice's car, asking them to adjust the clutch, and takes a loaner along with the map and pistol. He figures out where the farmer lives, and just before getting there he takes off the license plates and puts them in the car.
