Chapter 5 Summary

The two men and the boy watch the arrival of Reacher, Carmen, and Ellie, taking careful notes, and wondering as to what kind of a threat Reacher might be. They even notice that his shoes are not the kind worn by wranglers or ranch hands.

Reacher goes into the bunkhouse and meets the other two wranglers who are employed by the Greer's. He picks a bunk, and Billy and Josh introduce themselves, inviting Reacher out for a drink, but Reacher refuses politely. The maid brings a simple supper and after the other hands leave Reacher returns the dishes to the kitchen. When he comes out, he looks around at his surroundings and the three who are watching wonder for a moment if they have been seen. Bobby Greer sees Reacher and decides to test him, asking him to bring out the big mare...
