In the stilltent just before nightfall, Paul whispers, "Now Harkonnen shall kill Harkonnen." He rages at the planet that has helped kill his father and leave him the Duke. Jessica is awake but silent until she mentions Idaho. There has been no sign of him. Paul concentrates on digging out from the storm that has buried the tent. Jessica recalls dreaming about the sand covering her husband's name too fast for her to clear it and wonders which of the sisterhood is her unknown mother. Paul talks to himself of spice, desert power, and the Fremen as he works.

Jessica knows the conflict of having been trained his whole life to hate Harkonnens, only to learn he is one, thanks to her. She secures her filter as Paul breaks the tent.....
