Chapters 13-18 Summary

Myron drives to Cherry Hill to visit Deanna Yeller, the mother of Curtis Yeller. Bolitar finds an attractive woman who slips into inner city slang when he questions her about her son. Yeller appears to have no feelings whatsoever regarding her son's death, claiming that he was not a good person. Myron is perplexed by her seemingly callous behavior.

Myron meets Win at the stadium and tells him of his visit with Deanna Yeller. The two discuss where an inner-city widow with no visible means of support might find the money to move to the suburbs. Win tells Myron that Helen and Kenneth Van Slyke also have no money, yet maintain their affluent lifestyle. The two men wonder if Yeller's mother and Simpson's mother might be getting paid off, and by whom.
