Wren

Wren becomes one of the heroines of this story early on when she refuses to wait for a dragon to eat her and chooses instead to save herself. Though she is only seven, she decides to run away from her home and family and take control of her life. She is Leaf's and Rowan's sister and has grown up in the city of Talisman where dragonmancers make the rules and dictate most of the residents' daily lives. She is curious and intelligent, and loves to read. Wren is questioning the dragonmancers, including their rules, from the time she begins reading their private books. She is furious that the people of Talisman would allow the dragonmancers to decide she should be sacrificed to the dragons, and is especially angry at the adults (including her parents) who do not protect the children.
