Mina asks her companions a large favor, that they drive a stake through her heart and cut off her head, if and when it becomes clear that she is changed beyond all recognition. They each vow to honor her request. This accomplished, she then asks them for one more favor that is painful, for them to read the Burial Service for her.
The group leaves London and travels night and day by train to Varna. They have scheduled their arrival to precede the Count's by a day or two to give them time to make the necessary preparations. Days pass, however, with no sign of the Czarina Catherine. Under hypnosis, Mina reveals that the Count's ship is still at sea. Van Helsing is concerned by Mina's growing lethargy.
Finally, word comes that the Count's ship.....
