Chapter 8 Summary

Decker is at his trailer home developing some film in his dark room when his ex-wife, Catherine, stops by. Catherine is remarried to a chiropractor, but her new husband is often out of town. Catherine worries about Decker, especially since she blames herself for the time he spent in prison because the incident that caused him to go to jail took place the day she remarried. Now Catherine has made herself a sort of self-appointed guardian, watching over Decker. Catherine asks Decker why he insists on working as a private investigator. Catherine tells him he could make a lot more money if he moved to New York and went back to photographing models. Decker refuses even when Catherine suggests that she and her new husband might be moving to New Jersey.
