Chapter 3 Summary

Decker is the son of an FBI agent. Decker has always liked photography and became a professional photographer soon after high school. However, Decker found shooting models boring and decides to take the offer of a job with a local newspaper. When Decker arrives in Harney, Dickie's hometown, his first stop is to the local newspaper where an old colleague of his works. Ott Pickney came to Harney after retiring from the Miami Sun. Decker visits him to find out where he can hire a guide to teach him a few things about bass fishing. When Decker says he cannot afford any of the local guides, Pickney sends Decker to Skink, an eccentric recluse who occasionally works as a guide.

Decker goes to Skink's ramshackle cabin and finds a crazy man with a rifle. Decker offers Skink a hundred dollars to take him...
