Chapter 2 Summary

On the drive to Sinco, Lauren changes her mind about spying for Philip. Lauren purposely fails the employment tests, making it seem as though she is unintelligent and cannot type. Lauren also lies on her application, purposely leaving out her extensive education. Where the application asks what role she would like to play in the company, Lauren lists president and personnel manager, insuring the personnel manager's ire. When Lauren leaves, the personnel manager makes her feel as though there is no chance she will ever get a job with Sinco.

Afterward, Lauren cuts through a construction site on the way to her car. Halfway across the lot, Lauren hears someone come up behind her. Convinced it is a mugger, Lauren begins to run toward the building where she can see two men coming out. In her panic, Lauren trips and sprains her ankle...
