Chapter 17 Summary

Fortunately, nobody is in the car. April imagines how the accident could have happened by not turning the car far enough when crossing the narrow drive over the ditch. She tells Lorelei that her mother probably dashed out in a panic after discovering April had disappeared, but was undoubtedly inebriated. She shares how Liz has been so unhappy and frustrated about giving up her career and that no one wanted to recognize her alcohol problems. They run into the house. April turns on a light and everything appears normal. She notices Kim's phone number written near the phone, reinforcing her concept of the car accident. April feels terrible guilt and anxiety. She tries calling Larry in an attempt to discover the truth. Larry's father answers and is upset because someone has already called.....
