It is stifling hot in the small, non-air conditioned house. April has a nightmare in which she is back in Norwood playing a tennis game in brutal heat. Steve and her old friends watch the match. When the crowds cheer she thinks it is for her but to her horror, discovers the support is for the other player as she's a visiting player from Florida. After the nightmare it takes her a while to remember where, and especially who, she is. Her first day as Valerie Weber begins. The rest of the family is sleeping, and the house looks even worse in the harsh light of day. April ventures outside and is pleasantly surprised by the lush natural surroundings. She heads down Lemon Lane and into town. She notices there are no intersections.....
