John Converse

John Converse is a California native that has been sent to Vietnam. Converse is a formerly serious writer who became a tabloid journalist for his father-in-law's publication, Nightbeat. Converse once dreamed of writing a novel but has lowered himself to writing sensationalized stories about the Vietnam War. Converse does not take his job seriously and it is easy to see why as he is unable to report real and noteworthy news. Converse has been in Vietnam for about 18 months when he prepares to return to the US to see his family. Converse gets the idea to purchase three kilos of pure heroin that he will smuggle into the US. Converse enlists help from his friend, Ray Hicks.
