pages 51-103 Summary

It is just after dark when Converse meets up with Hicks. Converse teases Hicks about the fact that he is still toting around a copy of "The Portable Nietzsche." The men discuss the plans to smuggle the heroin (scag) into the US. Hicks is unsure because although he has an almost foolproof way of transporting the drugs, he is uncomfortable about the trip. Scag makes Hicks uneasy. The men talk about the CIA and many other things.

Converse finally convinces Hicks to take the briefcase. After the men part, Converse thinks that Hicks is probably a psychopath after all.

The story shifts to the Odeon Theater where Marge works with Rowena and a man known as Holy-O. The theater is a pornographic theater so the clients the women come across are typically sleazy or secretive about their presence. The women talk...
