Chet

Chet, the narrator of the novel, is a one hundred pound mix-breed dog with one black ear and one white ear. Chet is a smart, energetic animal who is owned by Bernie Little – who also owns the Little Detective Agency – although throughout the novel Chet refers to Bernie as his ‘partner.’ At some point in his past Chet went through K-9 police dog training school, which is where he met Bernie, although he failed to graduate due to an incident with a cat. Chet is called ‘Chet the Jet’ by Bernie’s young son Charlie due to his leaping ability, and his favorite thing in the entire world is riding ‘shotgun’ in the old Porsche convertible Bernie drives.
