The new Russian government elects Lara and Yuri to positions for the small town of Meliuzeievo, and their work brings them together often. Yuri writes to Tania about Lara and some of their work. He has resigned his office and plans a return to Moscow. Tania writes back, upset that perhaps Lara has become Yuri's new love interest.
