Chapter 2, Choice of Weapons Summary

M arrives at the office in the middle of a terrible rainstorm and immediately makes a phone call to a doctor at a local hospital. This doctor treated Bond during his recuperation from a poisoning that happened at the end of his last case and M wants to know if the doctor believes Bond is ready to go back to work. The doctor suggests that Bond might be on the edge of burnout, but otherwise clears him to return to work. M then calls Bond into his office. M makes it clear to Bond that he is not happy that Bond got himself hurt in a situation that should have been kept under control. M also suggests that it might have been Bond's choice of weapons, a small Beretta, that.....
