Tom Sanders

Tom Sanders is the protagonist of the novel. He is the husband of Susan, the father of two children, and a division manager at DigiCom. Sanders begins his week on Monday morning believing that he is line for a promotion to vice president of the company. He begins to hear rumors even before he arrives at work that a woman is going to be named to the position he believed he would get. At work, Sanders learns that his ex-girlfriend Meredith Johnson, a woman whom he does not believe has the technical experience needed for the job, will be the new vice president.

Sanders life turns upside down when he attends an early evening meeting with Meredith to discover that she wants to resume their sexual relationship. Sanders reminds Meredith that he is married with children, but she still pushes him for sex. He finally pushes her...
