Summary

Untitled chapter – Chase Cooper explains that while being a ninja is fantastic, it was not always the case for him because ninjas are often seen as bad guys. Chase reveals that what is about to be read is his chronicle so that history will not be repeated.

The novel then steps back in time to when Chase is 11 years old, and is a sixth grader at Buchanan School. Chase is scrawny, unpopular, and the new kid at school. The only person he knows at school is his pretty cousin, Zoe, who is thrilled that Chase and his family have moved to the other side of town. Zoe introduces Chase to their gym teacher, Mr. Cooper.
