For the first time when saying goodbye, Cody didn't look Jack in the eye. Instead, his eyes shifted away and Jack knew something was wrong. It came to fruition months later when Cody was arrested and sent to San Quentin for two years for offering undercover cops pot in exchange for a ride to the railroad yard. An earthquake heralds the beginning of the return trip to Florida where Jack finds a small apartment two blocks away from his sister. Angie is happy once more.
