Summary

Chapter 3

The protagonist thinks about more philosophical beliefs. She primarily focuses on religious philosophies. One is the Buddhist belief that there are 121 different states of consciousness. Three of those are negative, and those are the three that most people seem to shift between. The other thing she talks about is the idea that humans weren’t meant to be in the city, and anyone who lives in the city is constantly on guard because of it. Her sister encourages her to leave the city. One of the protagonist’s friends is introduced, a man she refers to as The Philosopher. She enjoys spending time with him because of how peaceful his apartment is. At the end of the chapter, he introduces her to a man who makes soundscapes of the city. The protagonist doesn’t know what those are, but she’s fascinated...
