The next day, Ed goes over to Bobby's room in order to clear up their story. Unfortunately, their story is already showing holes, because Bobby told the patrolman at the bridge that they lost their other canoe in the last set of rapids. Unfortunately, Ed realizes that portions of the canoe may have been found farther upstream, which would show the local lawman that Bobby is lying. Although Ed quickly amends the story to explain that they were dumped farther up the river and lost the other canoe, he exhorts Bobby to say that they didn't see anybody during their entire journey down the river. That way, they cannot be connected with anyone who may have been reported missing.
Their story is straightened out, but Ed still needs to give the new story to Lewis......
