Dystopian Society

This novel begins fifty years in the future, but a catastrophic event has caused society to slide backward in technology. Fifty years ago a businessman searching for a new source of renewable energy accidentally released dragon-like creatures from the bowels of the earth. These creatures could breathe fire, and they killed most people living in cities and outlying areas. A squadron of soldiers went into the earth to seal these creatures in their lairs, but failed. However, when they returned to the surface they somehow had the ability to stop these creatures from attacking. For this reason, each member of the squadron created their own city-states to protect survivors from the creatures known as Cursed Ones.
