Chapters 71-75 Summary

Rachel, with Michael and Corky, is explaining her findings to Pickering. She is careful to give only the facts and not implicate anyone. Pickering tells Rachel that Tench has called him regarding Rachel's allegations, but he did not know there were three of them or that they had proof. Pickering speculates that the meteorite was inserted to give credibility to the fact that it's a meteorite, and Corky says it is definitely a meteorite. He shows Pickering the core sample that he has and says that the nickel content, chondrules, and fusion crust indicate that it is definitely a meteorite. Rachel says she assumes the meteorite was inserted in the Milne Ice Shelf so that PODS could lay claim to the discovery, and it would be associated with a known impact.
