Survival

Ben finds himself in a dangerous situation at the beginning of this novel when a wealthy man forces him to strip and run out into the desert without any protection from the elements. Having grown up in the area, Ben knows more about life and death in the desert that anyone. Ben also knows exactly what to expect when a lack of water begins to take its toll on his body. Ben is more frightened by his situation than the madman who has placed him in it could possibly know.

Ben struggles to find water and protection from the elements from the moment Madec forces him out of his clothes at the beginning of the novel.
