Chapters 1-3 Summary

Deathwatch won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America shortly after its publication in 1972.

In Chapter 1, Ben, a college student, is acting as a guide for executive, Madec, in the desert near his hometown so that Madec might hunt and kill a single bighorn sheep. On their first night in camp, Madec told Ben about some of his business deals and Ben has gotten the sense that Madec is not only ruthless, but that he enjoys hurting his business rivals. Ben cannot wait until this week is over so that he can take the money he has earned and get away from unpleasant Madec.
