Summary

In Chapter 5, “One Size Does Not Fit All,” Oscar cannot stay for dinner. Sweet Pea and Liz decide to go out to eat and then in search of a new dress for Sweet Pea's seventh grade graduation. Sweet Pea knows she will not have many options because she is on “the bigger end of the juniors' department” (42). They find one dress they agree would be perfect, but the store does not have it in Sweet Pea's size. Liz asks a clerk to check to see if the dress comes in a size 18. The clerk says it is not available, and suggests they look in the adult clothing department. Liz goes on a tirade, saying that the patriarchy has created the idea that women should be small. While Sweet Pea cannot stop a few tears from falling, she and Liz laugh when she asks...
