Summary

In Chapter 23, thirty minutes later, Parnell and Mac were following Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Phillips to Esta Quinn’s home. Phillips told them Esta was seventy-one. She lived alone and had no living relatives except a nephew who had attended school for one month. At the house, there was wet, mildewed laundry hanging on the line. Parnell smelled the smell of death. Near the porch, they saw a set of bare footprints too big to belong to Esta. Beside them were a set of huge paw prints like the ones Parnell had seen at Cohen’s house. There was a pile of dead animals on the front porch.
