Summary

Chapter 18 is from Darkstalker's perspective. He arrives home about daylight. He is wearing an earring and a tail band that both carry enchantments. He worries that a piece of jewelry can be removed and begins to wonder about other possibilities, including enchanting one of his scales. He is about to write an enchantment on the scroll but knows Clearsight always reads the scroll. He decides to go back and write in a blank spot, hoping she would not re-read the previous spells. He knows he needs to come up with a better plan to hide his spells from her. After he writes the enchantment, he tries unsuccessfully to cut himself. He feels he is smarter than others with this power, both by providing the protection and having the scroll. He wonders “what could I do to other dragons?” (186).
