Benthic Settlement

Benthic Settlement is the underwater territory that the first subsea pioneers settled in. This is where Ty and all the other settlers in the story live. The story is set in the future, where global warming has caused rising sea levels, and half the world has been swallowed by the sea. There is not much room left on land, and those who live there are crowded into tall skyscrapers. This is why people are beginning to try life under the ocean. The settlers live in homesteads with large houses, outbuildings, and farms of kelp and fish. The settlement is under the control of the Commonwealth and expected to pay taxes in the form of food to the government.
