Father learned that if you just ate the rations they gave you, you would only last a few months, at most, before being chosen for the gas chamber. He often bartered spoons and knives he made in the factory for an extra slice of bread or whatever else he felt they needed. Every day, except Sunday, the soup was made of weeds and thistles.
The next day, work resumed as usual. Adam whispered to Daniel that all the other surviving rebels were captured. He feared they would tell on him if they were tortured......
