John

John is the point-of-view character in “What Can You Do with a General.” He is a married man in his sixties. He works as a construction contractor and lives in Southern California. He is married and has three grown children. His children range in age from early twenties to early thirties. John and his wife Linda still financially support their youngest child, Chloe. John feels disapproving of his children’s relative lack of professional accomplishments/ambition. He sometimes has anger management issues, and he also feels a distinct sense of emotional distance between himself and his children.
