The sun has begun to go down and Tad begins to return to something like normal. However, Donna does not know that Tad is escaping in his mind to a pond where ducks play. Donna searches for Cujo, wondering if he is still in front of the car or if he has left. Donna decides to try to run for the door while Tad is sleeping peacefully. Donna struggles to open the door and then becomes convinced it will not close again. Donna closes the door and it latches.
