Part 6: Chapters 23-24 Summary

In Chapter 23, Katie and Daniel arrive at Matt's home. Matt now lives on the Pye farm with his wife, Marie, and son, Simon. Matt welcomes Katie to his home with warmth, dragging her into the house for dinner. The meal is a warm, if a little tense, affair. The atmosphere lightens up when Luke and Bo arrive bearing dessert. As dinner wraps up, Katie recalls how Luke and Matt called the police the night Marie showed up at their house. Marie explains how she saw her father kill Laurie. The police go to the Pye farm to arrest Calvin, but he kills himself before they can arrest him. After Laurie's body is found, Mrs. Pye is taken to a mental hospital where she eventually dies and Rosie is sent to live with relatives. Matt takings over the farm, burning...
