Dystopian Society

A dystopian society is one that is in some important way undesirable. In this novel the dystopian society is called the Society. At first it does not seem all that bad, especially to Cassia who has never known anything different. It is a society that dictates everything for its citizens from what they will do for a living to whom they will marry. When she met Ky, she learned about his childhood outside of the Society’s tight grip. He was able to do things like learn to read and write as well as learn to paint. These are all things that are illegal in the Society.

Ky escapes from the Outer Provinces and goes into the Caving to find a group of settlers his father once traded with, the farmers. When Cassia follows, she begins to learn how repressive the Society really is. Cassia...
