Summary

In Chapter 24, when Charles and Taverner arrived at Three Gables, Josephine met them in the hall. Charles noticed how happy she seemed as she commented that Nannie’s murder was exciting. Josephine said that she had not liked Nannie very much and that she knew who had committed both murders. Charles grabbed Josephine by the arm and told her that they needed to have a talk. In a private room, Charles tried to persuade Josephine to tell him everything that she knew, but she refused to do so.

Charles explained to Josephine that there had already been two attempts on her life because she was bragging about knowing who the killer was. He suggested she might not be so lucky the next time.
