Summary

Chapter 16 opens with Nick waking up at Colin’s still-empty house to the sound of a blue jay tapping its beak on the glass wall. It has been a week since Rachel broke up with him. Nick thinks to himself that he should have known better than to invite Rachel to Singapore without preparing her to deal with is family. He feels that the older he gets, the more foreign his family feels to him. As much as he loves Singapore, he cannot believe he grew up in the family that he did.

Suddenly, Nick realizes that there is someone in the house. Remembering that he forgot to turn on the security system, Nick grabs a didgeridoo on the wall as a weapon and creeps out to the kitchen. Colin appears from around a corner, humored by the sight of Nick holding...
