Cradle and All is a medical thriller. It revolves around three major characters. Anne Fitzgerald is retired nun turned private investigator. She is hired to investigate a series of unlikely events, including two virgin pregnancies. Kathleen is the first of two pregnant virgins. Kathleen lives in Newport, Rhode Island with her family. Thus, much of the story takes place in Newport. Kathleen denies that she has had sex, yet is unable to remember fully the night she conceived. Therefore, her pregnancy is surrounded by speculation, and even her parents are not supportive. Colleen is the second of the virgin girls. Colleen lives in Maam Cross, Ireland, with her ill mother.
