Book One: Chapters 31-36 Summary

At the Vatican in Rome a new Pope, Pope Benedict XVI, is installed in office. In Ireland, Colleen hides while her teacher, Sister Katherine, and the local priest, Father Flannery, search for her. Father Rosetti is also searching for Colleen. He boards a plane headed to Ireland to meet her. His plans go awry, however, when his plane crashes. Father Rosetti expectes the voice but does not hear it. He recovers from the shock of the crash and looks around. He sees himself as the only survivor in a nightmare scenario and wonders if he is in Hell or still on Earth. Was the crash an accident or was it meant to kill him?

Elsewhere, Kathleen and Colleen both are awoken from sleep by nightmares. Their dreams are inspired by the Devil......
