Summary

In Chapter 13, at Godmother’s, Lenny learns that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Rogers, has been murdered. When Mini-Aunty says that he will go to Christian hell forever, Lenny bursts into tears. Lenny asks about the Dungarwadi, or Tower of Silence in English, where vultures pick dead bodies clean. There is no Dungarwadi in Lahore because there are too few Parsees. Godmother and Slavesister debate whether it is better to be buried or eaten by vultures.

That night, Lenny hears the staff chasing after Hari’s dhoti again. Lenny suddenly feels resentful of Hari's “preposterous and obscene dhoti” (126) and joins the group. Together they succeed in stripping him. Imam Din intervenes and returns the dhoti.
