pgs. 177-211 Summary

The men slated for the parachute public relations film report to Colonel Hershberger. The assignment is explained to Galloway. Ward and Schneider are in charge of making the public relations film. The three are airborne within an hour, practicing in the airplane. They then set out for Lakehurst but diverted to Willow Grove, near Philadelphia to check the plane for possible mechanical problems. Since Ward lives near the base, they decide to spend the evening at his hours and leave in the morning. Ward's Aunt Carolina picks them up.

Ward's parents went out of their way to entertain the group. Ward's girlfriend arrives with some of her friends but Charley is infatuated with Aunt Carolina, who drives Charley back to the base without Ward and Schneider.
